A proposed coastal merger has been hotly debated.
And, a submission has been put forward with residents now waiting for the process of the Boundary Adjustments Facilit-ation Panel.
The issues about a boundary dividing two district councils is now dividing the residents of the small seaside town.
It has been proposed that Weeroona Island and Port Germein be annexed from Mount Remarkable District Council to join the Port Pirie Regional, Council.Farmer Mario Valente, of Baroota, would like to set the record straight on some recent issues.
The five people on a committee who were Mr Valente, one member from Weeroona Island and three from Port Germein, who are from the coastal wards, made the submission to get information and discussions from the Mount Remarkable and Port Pirie councils to look at the changing of boundaries.
Mr Valente feels that it needs to be made quite clear, because this has been disputed, that five eligible electors who represent a minimum of 20 eligible electors, have a right to put forward a submission.
He said that at the recent annual general meeting of the Port Germein Progress Association, some faces had never been seen at any previous meetings.
He believes this action was to have a majority vote for the newly-elected president Mr Garry Wauchope who does not live in the coastal ward but lives in Booleroo Centre.
“I know that certain people on the progress association are being ‘ousted’ by those against the proposal,” he said.
Another concerning matter for Mr Valente who still holds the position of vice-president for another 12 months is that Mr Warchope was not present at the meeting and was elected to a position without having served any time as a member.
Mr Valente believes that a public meeting of all residents of Port Germein and Weeroona Island should be held to consider what the majority of the residents want for their towns. The Recorder will publish opposing views to Mr Valente’s comments in the next edition.
